
George Makinto, better known as Makinto, is an award-winning composer, arranger, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist and storyteller. He pioneered the genre of African Soul Music in the Ivory Coast and trained a new generation of musicians in Niger; won First Prize for his One-Man Show, Merci Mama Africa, at the International Theater Festival of Avignon, France; performed with Miriam Makeba and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Rome for Pope Jean Paul II; and co-created the “Worship His Majesty” event at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. He wrote over 300 original songs and tunes. Makinto also founded Joyful Music & Arts Center in Los Angeles, California and co-founded a non-profit organization, Amahoro International. Makinto considers himself a musical activist whose additional professional accomplishments include: Associate Pastor and Worship Leader at Los Angeles Faith Chapel and Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Development for WAFUNIF, an agency of the United Nations.
